Nectapure, a new ingredient from Alpa- flor, Basel, Switzerland, is said to treat “city stress.” Nectapure is a standardized extract that combines the anti-oxidative stress and anti-pollution properties of Buddleja davidii and Thymus vulgaris with pure Swiss mountain water, company executives. “City stress” is a combination of oxidative stresses from UV exposure, smoke, ozone, temperature fluctuations and soot that initiate the formation of harmful free radicals. Continuous exposure to these stressors can create cellular damage, leading to accelerated aging and loss of skin vitality, Alpaflor executives said. Nectapure is prepared with Swiss mountain water that is said to provide purity and exclusive moisturizing properties. Nectapure’s effects were backed up by in-vitro data showing excellent anti-oxidative properties in comparison to the well-known antioxidant Trolox. Company executives said that additionally, an in-vivo study demonstrated the moisturizing efficacy of Nectapure. The ingredient can be used in a variety of formulations including anti-aging cosmetics, sun and after-sun products. Nectapure is soluble in water and can be incorporated either warm or cold into a cosmetic formulation. It is stable in the pH range of 4.5-6.5. The recommended concentration is 3-5%.
